The range extends from the Northeast Chinese provinces of Jilin and Liaoning to the North Korean provinces of Ryanggang and Chagang.
Changbai Mountain is a sleeping volcano, and its last eruption occurred several hundred years ago. This led to a plateau forming on top of the mountain and, over the years, water gradually filled the volcanic opening. Due to its mountaintop location, people started calling it Lake of Heaven. The lake is oval in shape and is about 13 square kilometers in size. It's about 200 meters deep on average, with the deepest point, 373 meters.
The mountain range runs 150 km form Hengyang to Changsha, having a cluster of 72 peaks.
Heng Shan, also known as South Mountain, ranks the first among the five sacred mountains in China. It is also a famous mountain worshipped by Buddhists in China. Mount Heng, situated in central Hunan, extends 150 kilometers. The highest peak on the mountain is Zhurong peak, which is 1,290 meters above sea level. It is the best place to view a morning sunrise. On top of the peak is the Zhurong Hall, a Taoist temple.

The first attractive scene in Huangshan must be the peaks. The wonderful peaks have unique characteristics and charms. There is no exactly number of the peaks in Huangshan. According to historical documents, there are 36 big peaks and 36 small peaks named. And 10 new peaks that have also been named at present time.
